Precise polymer technology for the largest sewage treatment plant in the Czech Republic
The challenge
Following the severe flood disaster in 2002, the Czech capital's wastewater infrastructure had to be fundamentally modernised. The existing wastewater treatment plant had been partially destroyed and was no longer able to meet the increasing demands of a growing city of millions and the stricter environmental requirements of the European Union.
The new sewage treatment plant on the island of Císařský in the Vltava River was to be built to ensure high purification performance in the long term and at the same time be architecturally integrated into the sensitive surroundings. High-performance polymer preparation units were required for sludge treatment, which work reliably and continuously even with large throughput volumes.
The sera solution
Together with its long-standing partner Hennlich s.r.o., sera realised several customised polymer preparation units for the new wastewater treatment plant in Prague. Four PolyLine Flow 23000 S, two PolyLine Flow 16000 S and five PolyLine Flow 4000 S including big bag racks, dry material feeders and post-dilution units were used.
The systems ensure continuous and reproducible preparation of polymer flocculants for sludge conditioning. Thanks to the application-specific design and extensive customisation, the high requirements of the major project were reliably met. Engineering and realisation were carried out in close cooperation between sera and the project partners.
The customer benefits
- Reliable polymer preparation for high volumes of wastewater
- Stable processes in sludge treatment and dewatering
- High operational reliability thanks to application-specific design
- Efficient solution for the largest sewage treatment plant in the Czech Republic
- Contribution to compliance with modern European environmental standards
Conclusion
The Prague project shows that high-performance wastewater treatment plants require precise and reliable polymer technology in order to be able to treat large quantities of wastewater in a permanently stable manner. With the PolyLine systems, sera is making an important contribution to modern wastewater treatment in one of the most important plants in Europe.
